Also from the "Closing Your Florida Home" seminar ~
We questioned presenter, Deborah Boulware about leaving ceiling
fans running the entire time the home is unoccupied.

Answer: Fans do nothing to aid in the prevention of mold and mildew
and were NOT DESIGNED FOR LONG-TERM USE. Indeed
extended use over a long period of time could pose a FIRE HAZARD.
This info was corroborated by someone who had just had an energy
audit done by Progress Energy and asked about fans and were told
the same thing.

We have been uneasy about the long-term use of the ceiling fans
in some of "our" homes and we are now recommending that you
DO NOT leave ceiling fans on. Thanks!

On Tuesday, April 8th we attended an excellent seminar
on Closing Your Florida home that was put on by
Deborah Boulware of Lake County Extension. We will
be sending copies of the hand-out info with our yearly "goodbye"
letters. Also we have info on dealing with mold and mildew if you need it.
We will let y'all know if this seminar will be offered in 2009.
